Walk 6: Crowdecote Circular

Take a walk back in time - along an ancient tropical sea bed (The Upper Dove Valley) and back on a coral reef atoll (limestone ridge to High Wheeldon)...

1. Walk down the drive past Sheldon Cottage
2. At end of the drive turn left & climb over the wall at the footpath sign (a)
3. Straight ahead to the gate on the far side of the field (b)
4. Go through the gate & turn right. Follow the path downhill with the wall on your right until you reach the road
5. Cross the stile & turn left onto the road, continuing downhill
6. Take the first road on the right
7. As the road bends to the right turn immediately left, crossing over the wall into a field (c)
8. Walk straight ahead crossing 2 fields to join a track. Continue through Meadow Farm, until the path rejoins the road
9. Turn right onto the road into the hamlet of Crowdicote
10. At the T junction turn left (Turn right here for refreshments at the Packhorse Inn !)
11. Walk up the hill, passing The Bank Pottery
12. At the second hairpin bend, turn left through the small gate marked ‘Open Access’ (d)
13. The footpath continues up & across the hill above Crowdecote. Continue to cross a stile (e)
14. Follow the path which flattens out & cross a second stile onto High Wheeldon (f)
15. Continue to the top of High Wheeldon & enjoy the view from the trig point. From the top, spot Parkhouse Hill (g) & Chrome Hill (h)
16. Descend the hill towards the gate (b) & walk uphill to the fingerpost. Cross the wall - Wheeldon Trees is on your right!
