Time: 1¼ hours approx

Distance: 3.5 km (2 miles)

  1. Walk down the drive past Sheldon Cottage
  2. At end of the drive turn left & climb over the wall at the footpath sign (a)
  3. Straight ahead to the gate on the far side of the field (b)
  4. Go through the gate & turn right. Follow the path downhill with the wall on your right until you reach the road
  5. Cross the stile & turn left onto the road, continuing downhill
  6. Take the first road on the right (c)
  7. Follow the road as it bends to the right and continue through Underhill (can be very muddy !) after which it turns into a grassy track
  8. Continue along the track to the next cottage (Under t’hill) where you’ll find a fingerpost on indicating the path on your right towards Earl Sterndale (d)
  9. The path rises steeply towards a gate and then bears to the left.  Follow the path over a further two styles and it then descends towards Earl Sterndale - straight to The Quiet Woman pub.
  10. With the green and church in front of you, turn right onto the road.
  11. At the end of the village, follow the road past the village pond as it descends gently towards High Wheeldon which is looming ahead of you.
  12. After about 200 meters bear left up the lane marked ‘unsuitable for motors’ (e)
  13. At the end of the lane, bear right and continue on the road until you reach Wheeldon Trees Farm on your right
