Details: Although it doesn’t serve food (apart from crisps and pork pies…), The Quiet Woman in Earl Sterndale village is well worth a visit – it’s just about as far away as you can get from today’s multi-media, multi-themed branded experience.

Careful where you put your glass down; one of the tables was once used for laying out bodies at the village morgue.

From time to time, you’ll find landlord and lady Ken and Jen serving ‘Nipper Ale’ – brewed in loving memory of their eponymous hound who sadly met his maker having got stuck up a drainpipe…
