My owners have planned a short break holiday in the Peak District at Wheeldon Trees Farm self-catering holiday cottages…. It’s just 10 minutes from Buxton and not far from Bakewell, Chatsworth and Matlock.

The good news is that they’re taking me along too. After all, l love the fresh air and endless walks just as much as they do, and I really hate those kennels…….!

At Wheeldon Trees Farm I’ll get a warm welcome from Martin and Deborah and their dogs Bernie and Mister. I’ve checked the website and all the cottages are dog-friendly - all of them have an enclosed patio for me to stretch my legs.

Plus, there’s 12 acres of pasture, although I’ll probably have to watch out for sheep and cows, and I see they have very free range hens too so I'll need to be under close control, especially when we first arrive !

The cottages are tiled downstairs, so they won’t need to worry so much about my muddy paws. And, if they forget, Deborah and Martin can provide bowls, towels and leads and even emergency supplies of dog food!
Looks like they really do welcome dogs, and at no extra charge either.

Just down the road is the High Peak trail - 17 miles of traffic-free disused railway. That should tire us all out! Adjacent to Wheeldon Trees is High Wheeldon, a big hill owned by the National Trust; I can pull them up to the top for one the most spectacular views in the Peak District.

Later on, we can go to the Royal Oak or Packhorse Inn for lunch or supper. They welcome dogs too and we can even walk there and back (if they’ve got enough energy!).

There are loads of other walks from Wheeldon Trees - they’re in the guest information in the cottage. I won’t need to get in the car and they can have a drink!

This sounds like a great place - I think they should check right away to see when we can go.

Thanks goodness they’re not leaving me at home……WOOF WOOF !!
